The Kenya Kabaddi Union is proud to announce a major step forward in the development of Kabaddi in Kenya. Following a successful engagement with the Ministry of Education – State Department for Basic Education, the Union has received official authorization to pilot the introduction of Kabaddi in schools within the Nairobi Region.

This milestone marks an important chapter in the growth of the sport in Kenya as the Union continues to expand Kabaddi from national competitions into grassroots development programs within the education system.

A New Opportunity for Kenyan Students

Kabaddi is one of the fastest-growing sports globally, known for its combination of strength, agility, strategy, teamwork, and endurance. Introducing the sport to schools will provide students with an exciting new sporting opportunity while promoting physical fitness and discipline.

Through this pilot program, Kenya Kabaddi Union will work directly with participating schools to establish structured Kabaddi programs.

The initiative will include:

  • Introduction of Kabaddi to interested schools in Nairobi
  • Formation of boys’ and girls’ Kabaddi teams
  • Free training sessions conducted by professional and certified Kabaddi coaches
  • Capacity building for teachers, including training as Kabaddi referees and coaches
  • Identification of talented students for national development pathways

All activities under the pilot program will be offered at no cost to participating schools, ensuring that students have access to the sport regardless of institutional resources.

Pathway to National and International Competition

The introduction of Kabaddi to schools is not only about participation but also about creating a clear pathway for young athletes to reach the national stage.

Outstanding players discovered through the school program may be considered for national youth training camps and eventually represent Kenya in international competitions such as the Junior Kabaddi World Cup and other continental championships.

Additionally, trained teachers may also have the opportunity to serve as officials or members of Kenya’s international sports delegations.

Kabaddi to Be Showcased at National School Games

As part of the pilot program, Kabaddi will also be demonstrated during the National School Games scheduled for April 2026. This showcase will introduce the sport to schools from across the country and lay the foundation for Kabaddi to eventually become part of the official school games program.

Invitation to Schools

The Kenya Kabaddi Union invites schools within the Nairobi Region that are interested in being part of this historic pilot program to get in touch with the Union.

Schools that join this initiative will be among the first pioneers shaping the future of Kabaddi in Kenya’s education system.
