About Kenya Kabaddi Union
Kenya Kabaddi has been privileged to send players to the esteemed Pro Kabaddi League in India. Since the inception of the league, more than five Kenyan players have represented various clubs in India. Simon Kibura made history as the first Kenyan to participate, playing for Puneri Paltan (Season 2) and Bengal Warriors (Season 3). Phelix Opana played for Bengal Warriors (Season 3), and the team captain, David Mosambayi, previously played for Puneri Paltan (Season 3) and currently represents Haryana Steelers (Season 5).
Furthermore, the Kenya Kabaddi National Team proudly represented the country in the 2016 Kabaddi World Cup. They achieved victory in three matches against Japan, USA, and Poland, while facing defeats against Thailand and Iran. Based on their performance, the Kenya team is ranked 6th globally, following India, Iran, South Korea, Thailand, and Bangladesh.
During the World Cup, Kenyan players showcased impressive results. James Obilo and Odhiambo Zuma emerged as top defenders, while David Mosambayi excelled as one of the top raiders in the 2016 World Cup. James Obilo holds a world record of 13 tackle points in a single match, along with a remarkable record of 4 super tackles in one match. Captain David Mosambayi holds the world record for scoring 21 raid points in a match. Recently, Kenya Kabaddi emerged as the winners in the Eastern Africa Championship, bringing home the Eastern Africa Championship trophy.
In recent times, additional players have also participated in the Pro Kabaddi League. Victor Obiero joined Puneri Paltan in Season 8, while Daniel Omondi and James Kamweti played for Patna Pirates and YuppiYodha, respectively, in Seasons 8 and 9. Additionally, the Kenya Kabaddi National Team has achieved the distinction of being two-time silver medalists in the Bangladesh Bangabandhu Cup, during both Season 1 and Season 2.
