About the Union

• The Kenya Kabaddi Premier League. Men’s and women’s competitions, streamed live, with a Division Two arriving in 2027. The league
• The national teams. Selection, coaching and entry to the Africa Kabaddi Championship and the Bangabandhu Cup. National teams
• Referees and coaches. The Level 1 umpire course, run with the International Kabaddi Federation, and an annual certificate clinic. Courses
• Schools and juniors. The Kenya Junior National Kabaddi Championship at the Kenya Academy of Sports. Schools
• The counties. Twenty-six county kabaddi unions affiliated to KKU, to take the game beyond Nairobi.
• Clean sport. Anti-doping education for players and officials with the Anti-Doping Agency of Kenya.

1. 2013

   Laventer Oguta founds the Kenya Kabaddi Union and the national team. A member of the Kenya women’s rugby team, she first saw kabaddi on YouTube and went on to play in the first Kenyan side at the World Kabaddi Championship in India.

2. 2016

   Kenya play the Kabaddi World Cup, beating Japan, the USA and Poland.

3. 2023

   The Kenya Kabaddi Premier League begins. KKU runs its first annual certificate clinic for referees and coaches.

4. 2024

   Season 1 ends at Kasarani in March. Twenty-six county kabaddi unions are registered. Kenya win the Africa Kabaddi Championship at home and finish third at the Bangabandhu Cup in Dhaka.

5. 2026

   Season 2 ends in front of 3,332 at Kasarani. Kenya retain the Africa Kabaddi Championship in Zanzibar.
